Matthew Thomson ARAD – Classical and Resident Choreographer

Matthew is a graduate of the Queensland Dance School of Excellence and the Australian Ballet School. As a dancer Matthew has worked with the Queensland Balletmatthew thomson and West Australian Ballet dancing the works of many acclaimed national and international choreographers, he has also performed in Opera Australia’s Faust, The Love for Three Oranges, The Merry Widow and La Traviata and has appeared in the Australian Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet, Swan Lake and Anna Karenina.

In 2002 Matthew was the recipient of the Sir Robert Helpmann award for a professional choreographer at the A.I.C.D. Dance Creations Competition which allowed him to complete an international tour of study including a secondment with Natalie Wier at American Ballet Theatre and in 2007 he was the runner-up in the Australian Choreographic competition.

Matthew’s choreographic credits include works for W.A. Ballet, W.A. Opera, W.A.A.P.A., the Victorian College of the Arts, the Australian Ballet School and the National Theatre Ballet School where he has created 14 works since joining the faculty in 2003.

Most recently Matthew was the Assistant Director on Opera Australia’s Melbourne season of Die Fledermaus starring David Hobson and Yvonne Kenny.
